On 8th March, GCSE Maths students from Queen Mary’s College showcased their mathematical prowess at the regional finals of the Maths Education Innovation (MEI) Maths Challenge held in Brighton. The competition, designed for students post-16 who are either working towards a functional skills maths qualification or improving their GCSE Mathematics grade, saw participants compete across three levels:

  • Funkies- for those whose highest GCSE grade is a grade 1
  • Ein2steins- for those whose highest GCSE grade is a grade 2
  • Go Forth- for those whose highest GCSE grade is a grade 3

Beyond testing mathematical skills, the challenge also aims to their boost confidence and engagement with the subject. Indeed, Queen Mary’s College students saw exceptional outcomes, with the Einsteins and Go Forth teams achieving 1st place against other colleges. Equally as impressive, the Funkies team secured 2nd place. These remarkable achievements point to the students’ dedication and commitment to honing their skills.

The success at the MEI Maths Challenge not only highlights the academic excellence at Queen Mary’s College but also serves as a big win for the Mathematics Department who have given the students the teaching, support and encouragement to achieve such brilliant outcomes.
