Accessibility statement

This accessibility statement applies to content published on the qmc.ac.uk domain.

This website is run by Queen Mary’s College and hosted by ‘Innermedia’. It is designed to be used by prospective, current and past students, parents and staff of the college.

You are able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using a web add-on provided by iubenda
  • zoom in up to 400% without problems
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand. AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 1 Sept 2025. It was last reviewed on 1 Sept 2025 and will be reviewed on 1 July 2026. We aim to review the statement annually.

This website was last tested on 01/07/2025 against the WCAG 2.2 AA standard.

The test was carried out by our IT and digital systems team at Queen Marys College. The most viewed pages were tested using automated testing tools, such as ‘WAVE’ and ‘Accessibility Insights for Web’.

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’). If you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Queen Marys College is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

We aim to carry out regular testing, and we will update our non-compliance accordingly.

  • Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).
  • We plan to add text alternatives for all images by September 2026. When we publish new content, we will make sure our use of images meets accessibility standards.
  • Some of our pages include third-party content plug-ins, which are under the third party’s control. This means that they may not comply with accessibility regulations. The pages would comply if the third-party content was removed.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

As part of our ongoing SEO optimisation and commitment to accessibility, we are actively working to improve image alt tags (concise descriptions embedded in an image’s code that support screen reader users and enhance search engine visibility) on the website. This includes a monthly programme of work to review and update image descriptions across the site, starting with high-priority pages and expanding over time to ensure consistent improvements.

Our accessibility roadmap shows how and when we plan to improve accessibility on this website.
