Last term, Queen Mary’s College Film Studies students showcased their exceptional talent and creativity in a 50-hour film challenge hosted by Arts University Plymouth. The challenge revolved around the theme, ‘Holiday Dinner’, prompting the students to conceptualise, film, and edit their short film. The students not only met but exceeded expectations, securing a place among the top three films. An amazing achievement, especially as QMC was the only external submission competing alongside university-level submissions.
Plymouth’s feedback highlighted the strengths of our students’ film titled, ‘Table for One.’ They said that, “The team noticed several strengths right off the bat, notably a strong awareness of production design, an ambitious sound design that paid attention to multiple audio sources and sound track elements; and experiments using colour to change the mood. The practical effects are a nice cherry on top, but perhaps the thing that stood out most to the team was the scope of the project and making really effective use of several crew roles! Very well done!”.
The QMC Film Department expressed that “the students worked really hard to make the film within such a short period of time. They were all focused and dedicated, and even managed to turn the podcast studio into a convincing bedroom!”
QMC’s success in the Festive Film Challenge reflects the students’ hard work and dedication to their craft. We are very proud of their accomplishment and eagerly anticipate what these aspiring filmmakers will create next!
