Exam Arrangement FAQs

What are exam access arrangements?

Exam access arrangements are adjustments that help you demonstrate your knowledge and skills during exams without being disadvantaged by a disability, learning difficulty or other eligible need. Support is based on your individual circumstances and follows national examination regulations.

Who can get extra support during exams?

You may be eligible for exam support if you have a learning difficulty, disability, long-term medical condition or mental health need that affects you during assessments. This could include dyslexia, ADHD, autism, physical disabilities or sensory impairments.

Any arrangements will depend on your individual needs and supporting evidence.

What types of exam support are available at QMC?

Depending on your needs, support may include extra time, supervised rest breaks, using a computer, a reader or scribe, or sitting exams in a smaller room.

The arrangements available to you will depend on an assessment of your needs and the relevant examination regulations.

Can I get exam support if I have dyslexia or ADHD?

Yes, you may be eligible for exam access arrangements if you have dyslexia, ADHD or another learning difficulty that affects your ability to complete exams.

Having a diagnosis does not automatically qualify you for a particular arrangement. QMC will consider supporting evidence and how you normally work in lessons and assessments.

Can I get extra time in exams if I have anxiety?

If anxiety or another mental health condition significantly affects your ability to complete exams, you may be eligible for appropriate support.

Arrangements are considered individually and will depend on evidence of need and examination regulations. Speak to your teachers as early as possible if you think you may need support.

Can I use a laptop or computer in my exams?

You may be able to use a computer if this is an appropriate adjustment for your needs and reflects your normal way of working.

QMC will review the supporting evidence and may carry out further assessments before confirming your arrangements.

Can I take rest breaks during exams?

Supervised rest breaks may be available if you have a need that affects your ability to work continuously during an exam.

Whether rest breaks are appropriate will depend on your individual circumstances and supporting evidence.

Who should I contact about exam access arrangements?

If you have questions about exam support, required paperwork or your individual circumstances, contact QMC’s Exam Access Arrangements team at eaa@qmc.ac.uk. The team can guide you through the next steps.
