Additional Qualifications (EPQ and AS Level)

Additional Qualifications (EPQ and AS Level)

To complement your main programme of study, you can take additional qualifications including the Extended Project Qualification and AS Level options at QMC.

Taking these additional qualifications will enhance your academic profile and help you to stand out to universities and employers. They will also allow you to broaden your knowledge, develop valuable research and analytical skills, and demonstrate your commitment to learning beyond your core chosen A Level and/or vocational programme. Besides the EPQ and AS Level courses, you can gain other certificate qualifications through QMC’s excellent super-curricular and enrichment programme.

Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)

An independent research project that allows students to supplement their study programme, designed to develop many skills required for higher education or employment. The EPQ enables you to explore a topic of your choice in depth through self-directed research and produce a substantial piece of work. It helps develop academic strategies, critical thinking, and transferable skills. This qualification is particularly valued by universities and demonstrates your ability to work independently.

The EPQ is equivalent to half an A Level, worth up to 28 UCAS points (points dependent on final grade).

Example study programmes:

• English Language A Level, Media A Level, Politics A Level, Extended Project Qualification
• Chemistry A Level, Biology A Level, Maths A Level, Extended Project Qualification.
• Psychology A Level, Health and Social Care (vocational), Medical Science (vocational), Extended Project Qualification

The Core Mathematics qualification serves as a valuable addition to your credentials, earning you additional UCAS points and boosting your profile when applying for university or employment. Core Maths is a Level 3 qualification, assessed by AQA, for students who want to keep up their maths skills but are not planning on taking A Level Mathematics.
Core Maths is a one year course, timetabled for 4 hours each week. It can be studied alongside three A levels and is recommended for subjects involving some maths/statistics.

Core Mathematics focuses on practical mathematical applications and problem-solving skills that complement other subjects and prepare students for real-world mathematical challenges in higher education and employment.

Why is it recommended?
