College Bus Service

Buying tickets with ShuttleID (for College buses only)

All students who are returning or starting in September 2026 must purchase a new 2026/27 ticket to use the college bus. You will not be able to travel without a valid ticket. A QR code will be sent to you by email, and you scan this on the college bus every time you travel.

Tickets for 2026/27 will go on sale from 1^st July 2026.

Annual pass pricing – (purchased outright or by direct debit) – QR code valid for the whole academic year. Pricing based on travelling 5 days per week for 38 weeks.

Getting started

• Please refer to the Terms & Conditions of Travel (below) before buying a ticket for the first time.
• All students must have a valid annual pass AND their college I.D to travel on the college bus from September.
• To purchase your ticket, please select ‘Buy Ticket’ and choose your route.
• You will be directed to the ShuttleID website. The first time you do this you (or the person buying the ticket on your behalf) will need to register your account. You will be asked to confirm your email address and a confirmation code will be sent to that address. You will need to use this to confirm your email address in the ShuttleID system. Please remember your log in details so you always have access to your account/tickets.

Please note, the email address and phone number you use to register with ShuttleID will be the ones used to contact you about college bus updates and delays.

Annual passes are – Valid for five days per week – direct debit (8 direct debit instalments – 10% discount) – you will need to fill in a direct debit mandate when you register to buy your ticket. Please see the video here for help on how to do this.

Initial payment to be taken when you take out the mandate and then eight instalments will be taken on the 1st of each month starting 1st September and ending 1st April.

Payment Plans
Costs can be spread across the year through a convenient payment plan, making it easier to manage.

If your household income is below £27,000 (before deductions) and you live more than two miles away from college, you may be eligible for a bursary to help with transport costs. If you think you may be eligible, please fill in the application form which can be found on the Funding page (Link financial support page)

*(Please note: If you are purchasing a bursary pass, you will need to select the annual pass (one off payment) option. You will be sent a voucher code from the Funding Team for the cost of an annual pass and you will need to use this to purchase your pass).*

Splitting Costs

Want to split the cost between family members or give a ticket as a gift? You can purchase a voucher instead of booking a ticket directly.

How it works:
After purchasing, you’ll receive a confirmation email with your voucher code.
You will need to send this voucher code to the person booking the ticket (e.g. a parent or family member).
When booking, they enter the code in the “voucher / promo code” box at checkout.
The voucher value will be deducted from the total.
Any remaining balance can be paid as usual.

Once you have selected the ticket you want to buy you will be asked to provide passenger information including:

• A direct debit mandate form (if paying in instalments).
• You will need to upload a photo. You might find it easier using a mobile phone to register so you have access to your photos.
• You will need to select your bus stop from the drop down. These can be found on the College bus timetable.

You will then be taken to the payment page. If you are purchasing a bursary pass you will enter your voucher code which will have been sent to you in an email by the college. If you are purchasing an annual pass in instalments, you will need to confirm the payment schedule to be set up using the mandate created in the previous step (see the video above). If you are buying flexi tickets or an annual pass as a one-off payment, you will need to enter your payment method (credit card or pay by bank)

Once your purchase is confirmed you will then be sent a QR code. This is your ticket. If you have purchased a ticket on behalf of the passenger you can enter an email address or mobile number to send this to. The QR code will be available in the ShuttleID passenger portal and an email copy will be sent to you. You can bookmark the ticket in your web browser on your phone or save a screenshot.

When you get on the College bus you can scan this QR code either on your phone or as a printed copy. We recommend keeping a printed copy in case you don’t have access to your phone.

When selecting your route, you will be directed to ShuttleID, who will handle the transaction on our behalf.

New for 2026/27 – Parents can now enable boarding notifications on the ShuttleID account which lets them know when the student has boarded the college bus. To enable this, go to your ShuttleID account and toggle the boarding notification on.
You can also track your college bus by clicking on the ‘track button’ which is situated under the QR code on your ticket.

Use of Queen Mary’s College bus and the purchase of bus tickets is subject to unconditional acceptance of the terms and conditions below. You must read and accept these terms before purchasing a ticket or travelling.

Passenger Rules

• Transport is available to current Queen Mary’s College students only.
• Passengers must carry a valid college ID card at all times.
• Students must follow the student code of conduct.
• Breaches of rules may result in disciplinary action and removal of transport rights.
• Students who leave, are suspended, or excluded automatically lose transport access.
• If refused entry or asked to leave a coach, the student must arrange alternative transport. If the college arranges transport, the cost + £5 admin fee will be charged.
• Any damage caused must be paid for in full and may lead to loss of transport use.

The Service

• The college is not responsible for delays outside its control (e.g. traffic, accidents).
• Routes, stops, and timings may change if needed.
• Updates are shared via QMC service alerts &  via SMS.

Passes and Tickets

• Tickets must be purchased via ShuttleID (no cash accepted).

• QR code required for boarding
• Paper or mobile copy accepted

Direct debit passes:

• First payment at purchase
• Then monthly (1 Oct → 1 Apr)
• One ticket per student per route.
• Failure to show a valid ticket may result in refusal to travel.
• Students are responsible for keeping their ticket safe (screenshots allowed).
• Tickets are non-transferable. Misuse = cancellation.
• Fraudulent ticket use results in loss of travel rights.
• Travel without a valid ticket is not permitted—contact helpdesk in advance if needed.
• Ticket checks are carried out; misuse may result in removal from the service.

Refund Policy

• Tickets are non-refundable (except in exceptional cases).
• Annual tickets (paid in full):
• Pro-rata refund only for full remaining terms

Direct debit passes:

• Users must cancel payments themselves
• No refunds for payments already made

General Rules for Travel

To ensure safety and comfort, all passengers must follow:

• No smoking or vaping
• Respect others at all times (no bullying)
• No alcohol or controlled substances
• No sharp objects, weapons, or firearms
• No damage or interference with safety equipment
• Stay seated and wear seatbelts
• Arrive at least 5 minutes early
• Keep the coach clean (take litter with you)
• Do not distract the driver
• Use headphones (no loud music)
