QMC takes part in biggest Rubgy 7s Tournament

The Rosslyn Park National schools 7s is the world’s biggest rugby 7s tournament. There were over 150 schools in this year’s under 18 Vase tournament and Queen Mary’s College were the only team in Hampshire to make it through to the final.

QMC were drawn against the Samuel Ryder Academy from Hertfordshire, Farlingaye High School Suffolk and Welsh heavyweights and former winners Coleg Sir Gar.

After a comfortable victory against Samuel Ryder confidence was high going into the crunch fixture against Coleg Sir Gar. Everything clicked for QMC who ran out 32-0 victors.
Farlingaye worked hard but proved no match for QMC in the final pool game which meant that for the first time QMC topped their pool and qualified for the next day.

The first game on day two was live streamed on youtube and despite a brave fight the boys went down 29 – 0 to King’s Worcester. They saved their best performance of the event when narrowly losing to Salisbury’s Bishops Wordsworth School and exiting the tournament.

The lads conducted themselves exceptionally and were a credit to the college. It was two days that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
