Bursaries (Financial Support)

Financial Support 2023-24 – Applications are now closed.

2024 Applicants: applications forms will be included in the Joining Pack, sent to all applicants in June.

At Queen Mary’s College financial concerns should not play a negative role in your decision to study here. Any student in financial hardship is always welcome to talk to us and we will do our best to assist. For advice about support please refer to the Financial policy (link below), or email financial.support@qmc.ac.uk

The Financial Support Team will do whatever we can to assist you, including help with travel, course costs, food, equipment and trips where appropriate.

QMC financial support is available to assist students who are in proven financial need (in receipt of Universal Credits /Tax Credits) so that they can successfully complete their programme of study. The Student Support Team is responsible for the administration and distribution of these funds, in line with the guidelines provided by the Government.
There are five sources of support available to QMC students:
1. Hardship grants – students on a low household income and students the Government classes as ‘vulnerable’.
2. Free College Meals – Students on a household income of below £16,190, in receipt of income-related Employment Support Allowance, Income Support or
income-based Job Seekers Allowance, Universal Credit (provided you have an annual net income of no more than £7400), Guaranteed element of State
Pension Credit.
3. Specific support (small items) from QMC Welfare Fund.
4. Queen Mary’s Foundation – a charity which helps some of our students.
5. Childcare support – for students who are parents themselves.

Students will be informed of this financial support in a variety of ways. In the Joining Pack sent at the end of June, students and their parents/guardians will be informed of the funds as part of the pre-enrolment information pack. At Enrolment, students/parents will be able to meet the Financial Support team to receive information about the application process. During a student’s programme of study, financial support will be explained to students as part of tutorial, as well as via the student portal, plasma screens, posters, and in the Student Guide. Subject and Personal Tutors will also be informed of the funds so that they are able to direct appropriate students for financial support during the year.
