Queen Mary's College hosted the Maths Feast for the third time eariler this week. This is an enrichment event for Year 10s from local schools, run by the Further Maths Support Programme. Teams from the schools take part in a series of problem solving challenges. The event has been relaunched in recent years to put the emphasis more on participation rather than high octane competition, so as to encourage more schools to enter teams. They all clearly enjoyed the event and the teachers were as avidly enthused as the pupils, which means it serves a purpose of injecting some fun into the learning of maths and those all important problem solving skills that the new GCSE course is intended to develop.
