This summer, Winchester Poetry Festival launched its Young Wordsmiths programme, an intensive creative writing course for young people, with a focus on poetry. The aim is to bring together a small group of committed local sixth-formers to work with each other, their teachers and an experienced poet ‘mentor’ (Hampshire poet 2018 Robyn Bolam) to build their confidence and skill in crafting powerful words on the page. Young Wordsmiths is aimed specifically at lower sixth English students and there are only fifteen participants drawn from all schools and colleges in Hampshire. Three QMC students; Carrie, Faith and Val have been selected to take part in this programme and have already enjoyed and benefitted from attending a series of workshops as part of the course.
The English Department at QMC boasts an excellent team of teachers. They are rightly very proud that three of our student’s applications were accepted.
