Careers Day

Students were able to choose from over thirty talks which took place as part of Careers Day on 6th July. Representatives from various organisations were invited in to deliver informative talks about a range of career opportunities and paths that students may be interested in following after College. In addition to university options, students were interested to learn about alternative pathways into the world of work such as apprenticeships and sponsored degrees. Talks and clinics on writing CVs, employability skills and Gap Year opportunities were very useful too.

Among the representatives from various companies and organisations who attended (list below) QMC were delighted to welcome back several ex-students. Bradley Fletcher (above left) graduated from QMC in 2012 and is now a First Officer for Easyjet. Bradley trained at CTC in Southampton and, after graduating from Bucks New University in 2016, has been flying as a first officer. Bradley delivered a talk explaining 'How to become a Pilot' which was very well received by several students considering the same career path.

Other ex-students included Lauren Sparks (above right) who is now working as a Senior Associate for PWC, Jake Thurman (below right) who made the journey from Plymouth University to deliver a talk on 'Student Life' and Lauren England (below left)  who has just completed a Speech and Therapy degree.

  Lauren England    Jake Thurman

Lauren studied A-Level Biology, Chemistry and Geography at QMC before going on to study at Reading University.  Lauren said "After having the opportunity to gain work experience at a special needs nursery through the careers advisor at QMC, I was able to shadow other allied healthcare professionals, including a speech and language therapist. It was during this time that I realised I would like to peruse a career in Speech and Language Therapy. A relevant Extended Project Qualification taken at College also gave me extra knowledge to take to my interviews.  QMC provided valuable support in writing my personal statement and tips on how to succeed at interview. I have enjoyed coming back to QMC for the past couple of years, not only to give insight to prospective students on doing a speech and language therapy degree but also catching up with the fantastic teachers at this college.”
