The QMC Women’s Basketball team recently progressed through to the National Cup Regional Final after their impressive 46-60 away victory over a strong Peter Symonds side. On Tuesday 4th December the team travelled to Richard Taunton College to take on the side in the National Cup Regional Final where the winners would be titled regional champions and would qualify to represent the region in the National competition.
A strong start on both ends of the court saw the QMC girls head into the second quarter 6-16 up with captain Jade Clare scoring 14 first quarter points. A strong and even second quarter from both teams lead to a 12-12 result but the QMC team still had the lead with a 18-28 half time score line. A massive 3rd quarter from the QMC girls saw them run away with the lead and go 9-17 with baskets from Harriet Williams, Jade Clare, Amber Clare, Victoria Butler-Clack and Louisa Bickley. The team went into the final quarter with a comfortable lead of 27-45. A strong final quarter from the home team but the Queen Mary’s College weren’t to be shoved from their leading position that they had held onto since the start of the game. A final score of 40-54 with captain Jade Clare top scoring with 33 points! A fantastic and well deserved achievement from the girls who remain unbeaten in the league and cup and are now Regional Champions in the cup!
And it is not only the women’s team that have enjoyed success in the Regional Cup. The men’s team are also through to the National Cup after emerging as runners-up in the competition.
