Student Quotes
Ellie Hi, I’m Ellie. I did my GCSEs at Testbourne School and I’m a second year student. I’m taking English Literature, French, Italian and Ancient History. When it came to making a decision on the subjects I wanted to study I didn’t really have much idea so I decided to go with what I liked at school and what I liked the sound of. The Fast Track course in Italian is quite challenging because you do the GCSE in one year, and the ‘A’ Level the following year. There are lots of trips available; I spent a week in Florence and a week in Milan over the course of two years and I did ten days work experience in France. I have applied to do Classical Studies and Italian at university. I applied to six universities and got five offers so I’m lucky to have quite a choice. I’ll probably go to Royal Holloway University and that course will involve me spending my third year in Italy which I’m really looking forward to (Venice would be nice!). It’s something I never thought I’d have the confidence or the ability to do, which shows what a change can take place between starting QMC and leaving after two years. Last year, if someone had told me this is where I would be now I wouldn‘t have believed them.
Tom Hello, I’m Tom and I heard about QMC from a friend of mine. Before I left school I decided to come to the College and have a look around and I discovered a very relaxed atmosphere and some great teachers. This visit persuaded me to come to QMC. In all now I’ve done about eighteen courses over four years: these have ranged from Level One courses to AVCE Leisure and Tourism which I’ve just completed. As well as my main course programme I’ve done additional courses like English GCSE, Information Technology Level One and First Aid (as part of Enrichment). I’ve also played in the College Hockey Team for two years and squeezed some Badminton in too! The two things I’ve enjoyed most about the College are the atmosphere and the trips abroad; especially the French, German and skiing trips. The work was probably the thing I enjoyed the least! In September I’m hoping to go to university to study Tourism Management and I’ve just passed my driving test so distance shouldn’t be a problem!
Emma My name is Emma Biermann, I’m eighteen years old and I’m a second year student at Queen Mary’s College. In my first year at College I wasn’t sure what I wanted to study but I ended up taking History, Philosophy, Politics, Photography and Spanish. My favourite subject is Politics, one of the reasons being that since I was fourteen I have been heavily involved in youth politics through an organisation called the UK Youth Parliament. I realised that politics affects everybody in society whether they like it or not and I wanted to find out more. Studying Politics has led to an interest in studying social and political sciences at university. Before I go on to university I’m keen on taking a gap year to visit Kosovo for six months and help set up a Youth Parliament. For the remainder of the time I have applied to be an assistant to an MEP in Brussels which I really hope to get. I have loved College life and I really enjoy the different atmosphere compared to school because people are really interested in the subjects they are taking. Queen Mary’s College has been the perfect stepping stone for me to go on and do what I want to do in the future.
