Ofsted Oct 07 More Success for QMC 25th August 2009 Staff and students at Queen Mary’s College are again celebrating outstanding examination results. With a record enrolment of 2300 this year, the College repeated last years highest ever pass-rates of 99% at A-level and 90% at AS level and beat its own record for students gaining top grades, with an astonishing 1142 A grades achieved. These successes follow the publication of the latest national School and College Performance Tables which identified Queen Mary’s as the most successful sixth form college in Hampshire, based on the progress made by students since leaving school. An Ofsted Report in May praised the quality of education and support at Queen Mary’s, and characterised the progress made by students as “excellent.” Amongst the top A- level performers were ex-pupils from across the Basingstoke area. These include Mitch Barker from Everest Community College, who achieved A grades in Politics, Psychology and Law, and ex-Testbourne pupil Iain Ellis who gained A grades in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics & Further Mathematics and History. Hayley Butler from Cranbourne School was one of a number of students winning Oxbridge places; she will be taking up her place to study Law with French Law at Magdalen College, Oxford this Autumn, having achieved A grades in French, Spanish and History. Students celebrating AS successes include Fiona Ross from Costello Technology College who achieved A grades in Graphics, English, Law, History and Media Studies, and ex John Hanson pupil Thomas Capper who gained A grades in Computing, Economics, Mathematics, Philosophy and Physics. Read More QMC Students enjoy Judy Murray Master Tennis Class 18th May 2010 Students from Queen Mary’s College in Basingstoke showed off their tennis skills on 17.5.10 to none other than Judy Murray after the tennis team won a master class with the world-renowned coach following their victory in the AEGON Team Tennis Schools Senior Students Finals. Organised by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and supported by the Tennis Foundation, the competition, which provides the opportunity for lower rated players to play competitive tennis in a team based environment, saw Queen Mary’s College win the mixed title. QMC Records Highest Exam Results Ever 2008 14th August 2008 Students at Queen Mary’s College celebrated their highest ever examination results in 2008, with an impressive 99% pass-rate at A level and record numbers of students gaining the highest grades. AS pass-rates were also at an all-time high, at 90%. Over 700 QMC students will be off to university in September, having successfully met the entry requirements, including all those offered places at Oxford and Cambridge. Particular A level successes include James Phillips from Cranbourne Business & Enterprise College and Daniel Hood from Costello Technology College, who both gained marks in the top five in the country for A level Mathematics out of approximately 12,000 candidates. Sam Sammut from Everest Community College scored one of the top five marks in Art & Design (Graphics). Just under half of all grades awarded were As or Bs, including a record total of 351 A grades. Other students with particular reason to celebrate included Laura Payten who achieved one of the top ten marks nationally for her Drama & Theatre Studies AS level, and Emily Casebow who gained A grades in her six AS levels in Spanish, Biology, French, Chemistry, Maths and Perspectives in Science. Jonathan Forsyth and Peter Nickell both achieved 100% in all of their Politics AS modules placing them in the top ten of over 9000 candidates.
