Music Technology AS and A Level

Music technology, like other forms of technology, advances rapidly. The new Music Technology course aims to provide students with the opportunities to embrace recent developments in the field. Study at AS Level provides a sound foundation for Advanced Level, where students have the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge and understanding of music technology. It involves much practical work and it encourages the cultivation of a wide range of skills. Students will have the opportunity to build understanding of the technical processes and principles that underpin effective use of music technology and to comment on it in writing. Students will have the opportunity to: Sequence MIDI; Sequence audio; Record live instruments; Produce CDs; Compose using music technology. The AS focus is on: Music technology portfolio 1; Listening and analysing. The A2 focus is on: Music technology portfolio 2, Analysing and producing.
   
Method of Assessment: AS – written examination (30%), coursework (70%); A2 – written examination (40%), coursework (60%)
