Music Practice – BTEC National Diploma

The BTEC National Diploma in Music is a practical and academic musical course that requires a 2 year commitment from students. It is a very intensive course for practical musicians. You should be skilled in playing at least one instrument and you need to have a very keen interest in popular music. The Music Diploma gives you the opportunity to study 1 other course alongside. You will study a broad range of music skills and techniques and explore the work of a range of contemporary music practitioners. Students will learn by completing projects based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands that would be faced by a modern musician. You will develop your skills as a musician and take part in live performance and improvisation. You will also learn how to use MIDI technology, how to record live music, and how to compose original music and arrangements. You will study some music theory and be introduced to important aspects of the music business. Students will complete 18 units of work including: Listening Skills for Musicians, Music and Society, The Sound and Music Industry, Planning a Music Project and A Major Music Project. At the end of the course you will take part in a major group production, which will involve all the skills you have learnt.
