Politics - Government and Politics AS and A Level

Do you want to know more about Britain’s system of government, and to explore themes such as democracy, rights, freedom and justice? Taking Politics enables you to become fully informed on these up-todate issues, and to discuss and debate them with others. In AS Politics you will look at the ways in which people are involved in Politics, from voting to direct action. You will investigate who holds the real power in Britain and whether the UK as we know it will disappear with the impact of Europe and regional government in Scotland and Wales. The full A Level enables you to go on to study the political ideas that have shaped the modern world – for example, conservatism, socialism, fascism. Your course will involve individual and group work with a variety of sources, including books, newspapers, TV and the Internet. You will be assessed through modular examinations involving a range of different tasks, from stimulus questions to essays. Politics is great fun to study; it is also a respected academic subject which provides an excellent foundation for careers such as journalism, the public services or law.
