History AS and A Level
| Are you interested in how the world came to be the way it is? Do you enjoy investigation, discussion and argument? Do you want to make a career that involves analysing lots of complicated information, such as law or journalism? Then think about taking an AS Level in History. You can choose to focus on 20th century world history (Modern World) or on earlier periods, for example, aspects of Tudor/Stuart history (Early Modern) or Greek/Roman history (Ancient). Whichever you choose, you will study different kinds of history - political, economic, social and cultural. You will find out why historians disagree about the past and learn to develop your own interpretations. The course you choose will involve group activities and class debates as well as individual research, and you’ll be encouraged to use many different sources of information - books, maps, pictures, video, newspapers, CDRoms, the Internet - anything can become a useful historical source. Your assessed work will consist of essays, documentary exercises and research projects. |
