Geology AS and A Level
| Geology is the scientific study of the earth. In the AS course you will get a broad and stimulating introduction to the whole subject, studying topics like the earth’s interior, rocks and fossils, plate tectonics and the effect of geological processes on people. Practical activities and fieldwork are important aspects of the course, but there is no coursework. If you go on to study Geology in the second year you will investigate important topics in more depth. For example, fossils are studied in relation to evolution and extinction (e.g. dinosaurs) and the geology of Britain is emphasised. Again, fieldwork and practical work are important, and they contribute to coursework. There will be the opportunity of a residential trip in Britain or abroad. |
